In Japan, especially Okinawa, one of the ubiquitous figures you'll see on display in a host of different homes and public places is that of the two Shisa dogs.

I was intrigued by the legend, and also the many variations of size, medium and coloration through which they are depicted, in both traditional and modern artists' works.

You are looking up-close and personal at one of the more classic traditional Shisas which I encountered outside a house, during a walk through a neighborhood near the seawall.
