Blowin' in the wind

Posted by

Back to my storm coverage... Here is a view of some folks frolicking in the sand of Anna Maria's normally very clean and sunny island beach. This day we were being buffeted by Tropical Storm Debby, so no sunshine and lots of debris. Also, the haze you might detect in the general background is not grainy-ness from my camera - it is a mix of salt air and sand being blown by the very strong winds of Debby. Out on the beach, it can feel like you're being sand-blasted alive. And it can do a real "number" on your camera's lenses. So be careful out there.

I could feel this even before reading your gritty words here, Glenn.

Beaches always look much better in a good storm I think but have a weather proof camera bag ready or pop your camera into a plastic bag and make a hole for the lens and tape up well (the old homemade way)
I can feel the sand stinging my legs and face from here..

Not much fun getting that sand blown into your eyes and mouth ... but it surely made for a great image!
This is definitely NOT what Anna Maria Island normally looks like!!!

I like the misty feel in the background, but do not think I would like being sandblasted!

I hope you treated Sammy to some TLC after this shoot Glenn! He definitely deserved it after being out in those conditions! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Actually this was Nick (the Nikon) out there. Sammy was resting at home. But thanks for your concern. Sammy likes all the consideration he can get. :-p

that must have been some storm. You captured the ferocity very well in this photo.

The image looks stormy. I know that sandblasting effect. Yikes. Beautiful sandy tones and nice balance of darks and light.
