Interesting thing about salt water bodies like the Gulf of Mexico. When there is a storm, the waves lather up. This is some of the beach foam, washed up in a big pile.

In olden times, the simple folks believed this foam stuff represented what might be left after a mermaid's demise. At least according to Hans Christian Anderson...

The Wiki on this stuff makes interesting and scary reading. I got as far as mention of it harboring sea snakes and went back to my coffee . . on which a disturbing froth had formed.

@Ronnie 2¢: No snakes in your cup, I hope... ;o)

Do tell me you had some soap in your pocket ... ha, ha!
Seriously, it truly is fascinating the way that salt water does this as the water is whipped with air and forms that funny froth.

@Judy aka L@dybug: No soap. Haha. The wind and waves were so fierce at this spot that some of this frothy stuff was blown/washed onto my feet and legs. It was kind of sticky and yucky; when I got home it had dried into a sort of salty pasty white, which I had to scrub a little to remove.

Back again ... I can remember as children, we would come home from the beach on Long Island Sound and were admonished to take a bath, which my brother and I didn't understand. The salty residue is a sticky substance, so I understand your having to "scrub".
