Iowa, or Florida?

Posted by
Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 13 May 2010 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

Only the silhouetted pine and palm branches and the touch of this lilac-purple jacaranda tree in bloom tattle on the actual location of this windmill.

A touch of Iowa resides two doors down from my house in Bradenton, FL. The most unlikely thing you can imagine here in the tropics is this red and white windmill (lifesize and working).

Even odder is the red barn right below it in the middle of the Florida city of Bradenton (look here tomorrow).

Its owner is an older gentleman who is a transplant from Iowa farm life.

Nostalgia for him; Florida Heartland for everyone else. Heh...

That's wonderful ... bring some homeland with you! That's what we did when we came from CT. We wanted the comfort of our 'stuff' - solid wood furniture, etc., no pink and no flamingos! <grin>

you probably get quite a mix of cultures with all the transplants to Florida - a fun way to remember where you are from.....

You can take the farmer out of Iowa but not the Iowa out of the farmer. :-)
