Jump Start on Fall

Posted by
Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 14 August 2008 in Food & Cuisine and Portfolio.

It was October in the mid/late 1980s. We lived in Iowa and were pumpkin hunting. This place had every size, shade, and shape pumpkin and squash you could imagine. I took this shot with my trusty old film SLR. I still love these fall colors.

Betty from New Jersey, United States

October is my favorite month! I thought for a moment it was autumn already! (It's been cool here for August, and I love it!) Well done! Hugs to Bella!

@Betty: Believe it or not, I am noticing there is a slight coolness to the air when Bella and I walk our neighborhood early in the morning. Or should I say a slight "less hotness" to the air?

Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United States

This is a gorgeous capture and I think there's a bit of wishful thinking going on here. ;D
It hasn't been cool here (as it has been for Betty), but we're halfway through August so cooler weather can't be too, too far away. ;D

Stay cool, Bella ... continued prayers!

@Judy: Hahaha! You nailed me Judy. There is massive wishful thinking going on. I always loved the Fall and do miss the colors and smells of that season. Too many years spent in Georgia, Kentucky, and Iowa, I suppose. Truth be told, New Orleans didn't have much of a Fall either, and that's where I spent the first 35 years of my life. I got pretty spoiled since then.

MJ from Delaware, United States

I love the colors of fall and since I live near betty... yes it is getting cooler... soon all the great fall colors... this is a great shot

14 Aug 2008 11:47am

@MJ: Thanks MJ. I'm happy for you that soon the colors will be returning. I love Fall colors and signs of the changing season. But catch-backs here are that in December/January we will not be shoveling snow or wishing for warmer weather to come as we wallow on the hot, sunny beach. Heh.

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

It's a lovely compo Vf, it's good to know you were as good a photographer back then as you are now LOL Prayers and song for sweet Bella :)

14 Aug 2008 11:54am

@Lorraine: Thank you Lorraine. The great thing about archive photos is the fact that for every one you show, countless others aren't shown. Somewhere I heard or read that a good photographer only shows his/her good shots. Glad you think this is one of the good ones; I did too. Much appreciation for the prayers and songs; Bella and I can hear the music.

Tracey from White Hall, United States

Me too, me too! Fall is my favorite season by far. Lovely capture here!

14 Aug 2008 12:32pm

@Tracey: Thanks! Somehow the warm oranges, golds and browns that fit so well inland, are a bit out of place on the almost tropical beach environment I live in now. And yet there is a certain subtle difference in the air and in what's blooming when Fall does arrive.

Chris from South Jersey, United States

Great colors and textures - fall is my favorite as well, the cool weather and bright colors make for some amazing beauty.....

14 Aug 2008 1:30pm

@Chris: Ahh, I just get to live it vicariously now, through photographs and memories...

tyan from Singapore, Singapore

they look like orange avocadoes!:) this is very refreshing for someone living in a non seasonal country, what have i been missing out! And it only seems yesterday that Lorraine was posting pictures of winter, almost a year has passed!:)

14 Aug 2008 2:09pm

@tyan: Seasons are a wonderful thing; the best changes are from summer to fall and winter to spring, where the changes are pronounced. Some places here are really subtle, some, like Florida, are hardly at all.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, Canada

Lovely, lovely picture. Fall is my favorite time of the year and does not last long enough to suit me. We have Virginia creeper on the fence that separates our park from the highway and it is starting to turn red. it is so beautiful in the fall, so it must be coming soon. As always a pat and a prayer for our (see now we have all taken ownership) lovely Bella.

Great dof on this one VF and with the shadows and light playing over the colours of the squash it makes for a feast for the eyes. (couldn't resist... love squash.. ;-)
