Meanwhile, back in paradise...

Posted by
Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 22 October 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

People watching one day, I saw this guy with all these tattoos fishing off a short pier at Long Boat Key. Just had to grab this shot...

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

(Props to Otis...)

Mandy from South Africa

Great shot VF!!! Very cool tattoo's! hahaha.......and speaking of tattoo's, you were right the other day - Ethan did have a tattoo on his arm!!!hahahaha...it was of the rub off variety! My boys LOVE them ...well spotted! I had to go back and look at it again to check!hahhaa

22 Oct 2007 5:36am

@Mandy: Thanks Mandy. I was sure Ethan's was one of those "wipe-offs" that my son used to like at the same age. Prepare, though as he ages, b/c my son at 18 got one that does not wipe off. At 25 he is still happy with it, I guess.

@Behrooz: Thank you Behrooz.

e. from Washington DC, United States

Wow, this looks so peaceful. He has a really neat tattoo.

22 Oct 2007 6:27am

@e.: He looked that way to me, too. The tattoos were just extra decorations... heh.

Paulo Santos from Peso da Régua, Portugal

@Lorraine: You are just so filled with affirmation today! Thank you Lorraine; and I gotta say to everybody -- go see Lorraine's leaves and fence shot at her site; it rocks!

Jen from Alpharetta, United States

Great shot and great song!

22 Oct 2007 11:52am

@Jen: Thank you Jen; yours could have a musical background too -- "Are you going to Scarbourough Fair? Parsley, sage..." etc. I hope you have a great week.

Wolfgang Prigge from Canada

Fishing can be a passion, as it comes across here, for people of all walks of life.

22 Oct 2007 12:43pm

@Wolfgang Prigge: Yes it is. Florida has a whole host of passionate fishermen and women.

Jerry from Tampa, United States

FANTASTIC capture Viewfinder! looks like he has fished there many days!!!!

22 Oct 2007 1:19pm

@Jerry: As I watched him and his ladyfriend companion (not in this pic) at ease on this pier, it seemed they knew the area well.

Me , Myself & Eye from The WAY BEYOND,

You know it's not the size of the rod that matters it how you USE it !!! ...lol... Nice shot View , I especially like the light about his head .... good capture

22 Oct 2007 1:38pm

@Me , Myself & Eye: The light... heh. Yes, it's cool, the way it sort of looks like the light post is growing out of his head and blossoming at the end. Really skillful on my part, don't you think?

Nadine from Montréal, Canada

Love this.

22 Oct 2007 1:48pm

@Nadine: Many thanks Nadine. I appreciate the nice comment.

Rabbit from Richmond, United States

Yeah, some shots are like that - i do the same thing (although you guys never see that side of me & my photos ;) you only get to see the side of my pottery. Thats ok tho the pinhole is helping to show the other side of my photography skillz.

Sweet shot - i'd like to be there looking out at the water it looks lovely.

22 Oct 2007 3:16pm

@Rabbit: I think photographers and potters must have something in common -- we show our best (or faves), not our worst stuff most typically.

Dawn Sutherland from Phoenix, United States

Aah, one of my favorite songs of all time, big shout out to Otis! Love this shot, I have yet to fish off of a pier. I see people doing it all the time.

22 Oct 2007 4:06pm

@Dawn Sutherland: Thanks! Pier fishing can be very rewarding and it's cheap on gas, too. Glad you like this and the song, Dawn.

Amir from ?, Iran

Such a bony guy. Nice poem to go with it. The photo is superb

22 Oct 2007 4:15pm

@Amir: How nice of you Amir; the poem is actually a classic popular song from the 1960s by Otis Redding.

Reza from Montreal, Canada

Very well done. Beautiful capture and tattoos :)

@Reza: Thanks a lot; your positive feedback is much appreciated.
