Fences offer not only a nice marker for limits, but also a certain sense of security for those walking along the edge of something bigger than themselves. Like this fresh white picket fence does for a high-elevation path skirting both the ocean and the site of another lighthouse, as we now move south of SF along Hwy 1, on our way to Big Sur.
