Getting back to the topic of fabrics, a few weeks back I featured some batik cloth from Kenya, which we got on a mission trip.

Today's photo is a combo of cloth I got on my trip to Israel, and something I bought myself when I graduated from seminary 21 years ago. This green piece is part of a liturgical stole I wear as I lead worship on Sundays. It was hand-woven in the Philippines.

The red multi-color cloth is hand woven by the Druse people who live in the Upper Galilee region. I picked it up during a trip to Israel sixteen years ago. It reminds me of the varied fabric of different peoples who live in that amazing land.

I have them both displayed in my office.

@Marion: Thanks Marion. I echo the PTL. Taking things a day at a time is hard work for me; I am a person who has problems with a lot of loose ends. God is working on me in that area: "Grow, VF, grow!"

@Betty: I am thankful that these have been good days for her (and us). I admit to feeling a lot of anxiety anyway, but as I said at Marion's comment, God is working on me to live in the loose ends of life. Not all things, including miracles, necessarily have an immediate resolution.

@Ekaputra Tupamahu: No, I am not from the Philippines. I bought this green stole at my US seminary bookstore; it was made in the Philippines. I am a graduate of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, M.Div. '87.

I love the textures of the fabrics you've shared with us ... each with such interesting patterns ... products of those with special talents. As a lover of cloth, a seamstress with many years of experience, I can almost feel the 'hand'.

this cloth reminds me of a documentary from the discovery channel about how children as young as 7 were sold into slavery to weave cloth like these.Rescue teams rescued them from child slavery and brought them back to their hometown.But the moment their mothers saw them,they cried in anguish,'Why have you come back to give me more trouble?' Because they were so poor they can hardly survive themselves. I saw the look of abandonment and hopelessness in the children's eyes. In the end,it is no wonder they go back to slavery.because there was no better place to go.sorry i am at such a sad topic.:)
