This took place on the streets of the Old City in Jerusalem. Does the phrase "our daily bread" seem to grab you? This Israeli bread vendor is providing fresh, delicious-smelling breads for hungry passers-by to snag and buy.

Oh, I can remember the wonderful smell of these breads in Jerusalem ... thanks for the memory.

PS: Bella, we're going to Madeira Beach for an overnight - I'll blow a kiss and a prayer your way, some 25 miles as the crow flies.

@Judy: Thanks Judy. Hoping you are thunderstorm free today (SAT). Bradenton isn't, but rain is needed. Bella doesn't like the thunder, though.

Hahaha! You are so right, none of us dared buy it either. Or the delicious-smelling falafel being sold by other vendors nearby. Our guides warned us against this. We weren't sure if this wasn't because they had "approved" places to take us all for meals (where they'd get a "cut" of the total bill or some extra big tip). Tourism is the same everywhere.

@Ian Bramham: Thank you Ian. I thought this would be a not entirely "typical" Jerusalem photo. But it was typical of the normal Jerusalem I found, just beyond the newsreel cameras.

it's a nice photo, i love the warm colors and the golden brown of the bread in particular, but it's kind of difficult to look at it out of the context of the many human beings, not too far from where this was taken, being denied their daily bread, water, medicines

@danthro: It's a sad situation all over, but one must also consider the suicide bombers who have long terrorized Israel, the shellings, and the neighboring states whose leaders have vowed to annihilate Israel as a nation. IMO, what is done in self-defense must be viewed somewhat differently than blanket aggression or oppression for the sake of oppression. No one knows this truth better than the Jewish population that helped form Israel 60 years ago. But this is not a place to debate politics. I agree that all suffering is a bad thing.

@Man with 101 Names: It was an incredible trip. Seeing Jerusalem, then south from the Dead Sea, the Jordan River, and then north into Galilee -- it is a lifetime memory. And thanks for your good Bella wishes. Blessings to you 101.
