This BW is a kind of edgy view of an upstairs porch corner. BTW, that is a cork on a rope hanging outside. They use these on large fishing nets and for marking crab traps.

Very nice contrast! I wonder how the wood truned out so white. Was it painted while or is it a PP?

@Lorraine: Funny!
i like the bw effect and the angle from which this picture was taken,as if it was waiting in vain for somebody.
thanks for your comment at my blog,i really appreciate it.If only more parents are even half as enlightened as you,i think the suicide rate among children as young as 9-10 years old wouldnt be as high in our country.There is this new program here in Singapore called the 'Perfect Child',featuring kids who are sent to be taught by this renowned 'Shicada Method',a japanese method apparently,believed to help develop kids' left brain and their photographic memory.And in the documentary,you see a 3 year old kid who can count in 9 different languages,a 6 year old who can do complicated additions and subtractions,and kids who can rattle off how many balls there are as the teacher flashes cards in front of him at the spped of half a second. Then there is this growing phenomenon of parents who send their 10 month old babies to music,art,and all kinds of enrichment,also those who would buy a house near the top elite schools they want their kids to attend,do 40 hours of volunteer work in that school so that their kids would be given priority for a place in the school.Then there are parents who want their kids to have tuition for every single subject,even in those that the kids fare ok.

i feel very depressed looking at the kids in the documentary,I feel they have no childhood,just puppets to fulfil their parents dreams and ego.But many parents find these prog good and it has become like a brand thing.Whoever has it is wise,ahead of times and a winner.sometimes its hard to swim against the tide and it can be very terrifying,like a herd mentality thing.And so you see more and more maladjusted children,depressed,suicidal and lonely.Very Very sad.

@tyan: Tyan, I did not know about the suicide rates, and had not heard about that Japanese memory method -- terrible news, both. It was all bad enough when the programmed children were just being shuffled back and forth to dance, music, soccer, baseball, karate, juijitsu, etc. (by parents who then love to complain they are so tired being "chauffeurs" for their busy kids -- as if this validates their existence or something). Children need time to be children, to develop their personal imaginations and creativity, find their gifts and interests by exploration, and not become little programmed automatons who serve to feed their parents' insecurities and egos. Tyan, you are wise to swim against the pressures of that stream.
i love this b&w. the detailing of the wood is just so beautiful!

Great composition - I love the repetative patterns broken by the cork. Very effective also in b&w...

Considering the locale that you are from, I first thought I was looking up at a pier with a boat "bumper" hanging down. OOPS! The B & W does a nice job highlighting the wood grains.

We were in Orlando and I actually considered emailing you to see if you and Mrs View wanted to meet Me and Mrs 101 for dinner , but I did not want to bother you :o)

@Man With 101 Names: Oh I do wish you had! We're not very far from Orlando (90 minutes drive). Not a bother at all, that would have been great.
Great lines in this shot! Very nice.

Have a most wonderful time and rest, my friend. It's well deserved... and then of course your son's wedding. How absolutely marvelous to be able to perform this special ceremony for your son.
