Faces in a Crowd 2Posted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 12 February 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Gasparilla is Tampa's version of Mardi Gras. This year's event just took place several weeks ago - Gasparilla commemorates a mostly legendary pirate invasion of Tampa Bay, and there are parades, parties, and all sorts of wildness. People dress up in different, mostly pirate-related costumes as they stroll along the parade route. It's usually a good natured crowd, and most have lots of fun. There is a lot going on in this parade -- hands upraised, the crowd roars at costumed pirates atop parade floats to "surrender the booty" (meaning, "throw me some beads!")... and here, some contemplative Gasparilla pirates are considering doing just that.
