A Week at the Beach 5Posted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 25 January 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. Back to the water... there's nothing like a long view of the beach from atop one of Florida's big dunes; these are most common along the Panhandle area in northwestern Florida; this one is near Cape San Blas.

Are you sure it's not snow! :0) 25 Jan 2008 8:10am @Craiger: Positive. Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgiumnice soft texture in the dunes - looks inviting! 25 Jan 2008 9:52am Forouz from ., Germanywow, nice dancing with the wind. I suppose/mostly hope that this sand is warm/ hot due to the Sun... I wanna leave the work, go home with a blanket surrounding drink tee of coffee... 25 Jan 2008 10:04am @Forouz: ;-) Daigneault - Photographe from Granby, Québec, CanadaMmmmmm! gilles 25 Jan 2008 10:17am Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesSomething to know about Florida sand -- from Apalachicola west to Gulf Shores, Alabama, the sand is very white, fine textured and sugary-looking. I am told this distinctive is due to the kinds of sediment/sand washed out into the Gulf by one of the main rivers that empties into the Gulf nearby. As you go east along the Gulf side of Florida, the sand is still white, but not as blindlingly white as around this place photographed here and especially Panama City Beach, Destin, Navarre Beach, Pensacola/Gulf Breeze, and Gulf Shores. Sand along the FL Atlantic Coast will not have this white appearance, but is more tan to cocoa in its look, and its texture is very different also. On sunny summer days, white sand can blinding (bring your shades) and very warm (flip flops a must). 25 Jan 2008 11:12am alex centrella from fresno, United Statesnice shot, looks like a nice place to kick back and relax. 25 Jan 2008 12:34pm Nick Passantino from Bronx, United Statesthanks for the warning. too much snow for me recently. not enough sand. 25 Jan 2008 12:38pm MJ from Delaware, United StatesMakes me look forward to May when I will be in Florida... Yes I prefer the sand to the snow...Great shot... 25 Jan 2008 12:46pm Wolfgang Prigge from CanadaDon't rub it in, we have -20º C this morning, although it is very sunny and bright with the snow... 25 Jan 2008 1:34pm @Wolfgang Prigge: <grin> Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYou could not have given me a nicer present today, many many thank yous...I can dream of this all day ;) 25 Jan 2008 2:20pm Man With 101 Names from Hamburg, United Stateswould be an awesome shot in my opinion if the people on the beach were not in the shot , just my opinion mr. view 25 Jan 2008 2:25pm @Man With 101 Names: I agree. But people are also part of the beach landscape, wherever you go. It's hard to just say to them, "Sorry, but Mr. View is taking a picture for the snowbound to enjoy one day. You'll have to leave the beach now." So you include them in the photo anyway. amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaI can close my eyes and feel myself sitting there... feel the sun and the breeze, hear the ocean, feel the sand (are you sure that's sand.. 'cuz it would sure bugger up my fantasy here.. hee hee) beneath my hands. Yep, with your wonderful shots I may last 'till spring!! 25 Jan 2008 3:34pm @amy: yes amy, indulge your wildest fantasies. I am certain this is sand. Snow doesn't grow warm in the tropical sun, it melts away... lol. Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanSnowbound or not.....I believe many of us would love to be just there with our toes feeling the sand! 25 Jan 2008 3:36pm Chris from South Jersey, United StatesGreat image - I actually like the people in the picture because it adds to the scene - they are having a fun day on a mostly empty beach. For me, the crooked horizon is a little distracting (but you know that about me already). Wonderful colors and perfect depth of field.... 25 Jan 2008 4:42pm @Chris: Warning: Crooked horizon disclaimer coming in two days... beware Chris. Rabbit from Richmond, United Statesha ha - EAT your heart out WINTER WONDER LAND! 25 Jan 2008 5:47pm @Rabbit: Ha-ha! Even when I lived in the frozen North, my winter patience only lasted through January 1st. After that, I was ready for better things than frostbite. Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, FranceIt reminds me the DDay Normandy beaches. A beautiful shot (and nicer because it's winter). 25 Jan 2008 6:06pm Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaI think I would like to stretch out in the sand. It is -20 C here, too. 25 Jan 2008 6:46pm Ken McCoy from Orlando-Daytona Beach, FL, United StatesI love the "just over this hill" view - I'm still dragging the cooler :) 25 Jan 2008 10:58pm @Ken McCoy: ROTFL! Dawn Sutherland from Phoenix, United StatesHa ha love that last line in your remarks!!!! This is gorgeous, superb capture. 26 Jan 2008 4:49am Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, AfghanistanYou guys 'down county' have such an advantage ........
