Purple 4Posted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 8 November 2007 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. This ground orchid plant was so grateful for a series of rainy days we've had recently that it bloomed joyfully, and in this beautiful orchid color -- just right for my purple series.

@Images by KC Photography: They are. It's amazing how small yet beautiful these flowers truly are. Mandy from South Africawow - it's an exquisite colour VF. I love Orchids, they are such delicate and "regal" looking flowers. I have never been brave enough to grow one...I'm too scared I'll kill it in the first week!!hahaha 8 Nov 2007 6:15am @Mandy: Thanks Mandy; it is a pretty flower. Ground orchids are easy to grow... just stick 'em in the ground and water; make sure they have about a half day of shade (daily) where they're planted. And then they'll bloom for you. ColNed Pictures from Amersfoort, NetherlandsGreat shot and another great purple example ! 8 Nov 2007 8:25am @ColNed Pictures: Thanks ColNed. I appreciate the applause. ;-) vu@granby - gilles from Granby, Québec, CanadaOrchids are like fashion models: This purple serie is a good idea Viewfinder. 8 Nov 2007 8:46am @vu@granby - gilles: Merci, my friend. I think you have it right about those orchids and fashion models being alike. Heh. @e.: Thanks e. Glad you stopped by. Organik from AustraliaAnother beautiful shade of purple and photo VF. This has been a gorgeous series that you've presented. 8 Nov 2007 10:46am @Organik: I'm sure glad you are enjoying this series; it just sort of "popped" up, spontaneous-like. I wasn't planning a series but the idea just "struck" me. So... thanks! MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomOooo! perfect simply perfect, what a beautiful flower and shade to add to the glorious purples that we have seen so far! 8 Nov 2007 11:11am @MaryB: You are the rose queen, so to compliment this humble ground orchid from our flower garden is a great kindness. My purple series will take a turn from glorious to somewhat "quirky" for the next two days. I hope humor and purple go together well... Lorraine from Gatineau, Canadawell, your Purple Honour, I'm besieged with envy ;) 8 Nov 2007 12:32pm @Lorraine: Funny gal! But thanks a lot! However, don't envy this -- not with the grand atmospheric BW you have posted today. Nick Passantino from Bronx, United Statesgreat colors and soft feel to this shot. 8 Nov 2007 12:50pm @Nick Passantino: Thanks Nick; I think the dof adds softness to the shot. @KMF: Thanks! Glad you came by. @Rabbit: :-D Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesOrchids are such delicate and beautiful flowers. I've seen so many varieties since I started photoblogging a couple of years ago. This is a beautiful specimen in lovely purple. 8 Nov 2007 4:51pm @Laurie: Yes they are delicate. Thanks for commenting, and I hope you're still celebrating your son's homecoming. @Reza: Thanks. amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaIt is indeed beautiful... not that I'm jealous in the least bit that you still have beautiful flowers at this time year... nope, not me... Lovely lovely image Viewfinder!! 8 Nov 2007 6:45pm @amy: I may have the flowers, but you've got the great snow-covered mountains and all that wonderful terrain. Right about now, I'd be glad to trade some flowers for a bit of those beautiful mountains. @Stunner: Thanks, it is a delicate thing, but easy to grow long as it rains. Mingo from Sant Boi de Llobregat, SpainSensacional macro, preciosos colores. Excelente captura. Saludos! 8 Nov 2007 8:19pm @Mingo: Su comentario se aprecia mucho. Bendiciones a usted. Lost Valley :-) from CanadaHello VF! Popping by to say a quick hello! What a gorgeous orchid-which are some of my fave flowers! You have captured the tranquility of this flower wonderfully!! Sure do miss my photography and this community!!Hope all is well with you and your family! 8 Nov 2007 8:37pm @Lost Valley :-): Wow, am I excited or what? LV, it is so, so, so great to hear from you! Yes we're all ok, and I hope it's likewise for you and yours. Your absent photos and your not being here every day has been tough for many of us. Hoping one day you'll find time to return full time. Oh, and thank you for saying such nice things about my little flower-bed orchid shot. Never thought we'd actually live somewhere that doesn't require a greenhouse to grow them. Rebecca from Leicester, United KingdomWOW, this is like a breath of pure, fresh air, dear VF!! I love orchids, we had them at our wedding! – you may also know that the orchid is my home country, Singapore’s national flower? It is truly a treasure, and your image here today is a bringer of pure delight, dear friend. Love it. :) 8 Nov 2007 10:08pm @Rebecca: How wonderful; I did not know the orchid is Singapore's national flower. But now that you tell me this, I dedicate this orchid to you Rebecca. Blessings, my friend. @Shahab: Thank you; I am pleased you are liking this purple series. I hope the next two days are of interest as well. Blessings, my friend. bronzebilly u.k. from Barry,Vale of Glamorgan, United Kingdomgreat capture V.F.-again excellent colour--and a nice bit of shadowing going on here--great work--billy 9 Nov 2007 12:58am @bronzebilly u.k.: Glad you like. Blessings, Billy. tyan from Singaporewow VF,did you say it grew in your garden??!!Orchids are so hard to rear,in my opinion and you guys actually have such a beautiful one at your door!Cool!:) 9 Nov 2007 2:09am @tyan: Yes tyan, these are called "ground orchids" and they grow very easily here. There are more exotic types that require a lot of special care, but these are straight from the flower pot to the ground and they do their bloomin' thing from there. We have three varieties -- this one is the classic orchid look, and there is a yellow variety, and a clustered coral-pink type as well. I like this one the best. BTW, Rebecca told me these are Singapore's national flower and I told her this one is dedicated to her. Well it's also dedicated to you. Best of all, from now on, whenever I walk beside these when they are blooming I shall be reminded of my dear tyan and Rebecca, both Singapore friends, and that will make these orchids all the more wonderful. ;-) @Jen: Lol. Just for you, Jen... Japanalia from JapanIndeed, cute little flower and the purple is fascinating! 11 Nov 2007 1:04pm @Japanalia: Thank you Gabriela, am happy you like this one. |
