That You, Jack?Posted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 29 October 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. A fugitive from the Jack O'Lantern factory? No, this big orange pumpkin was caught slightly out of focus, but surrounded by clear, sharp leaves (thanks autofocus), and growing inside a greenhouse of the future, at Disney's Epcot. It's for real, folks, just waiting to have its hidden spooky/funny face carved for Halloween, and then what's left baked into a pie. Trick or treat!

Lost Valley from Gorgeous Sunsets, Canada2 days away!!! Can't wait!!! I am carving mine today-was supposed to do it yesterday but homework got in the way! :-( 29 Oct 2007 5:17am @Lost Valley: My daughter teaches kindergarten; last year she asked me to come do a "show and tell" pumpkin carving for her class. That was fun. She's said something about it again this year, but no definite date and as you said, we're 2 days away from Halloween... tyan from Singaporehow big is this pumpkin?it does look mammoth to me!We are not really into celebrating Halloween here but i see some little pumpkins with silly faces on sale at supermarket.I am thinking of getting a wizard garb for caleb and perhaps have an afternoon of make believe play...:) 29 Oct 2007 6:50am @tyan: It's a very large pumpkin. Halloween is one of those mixed things for many Christians here; some celebrate it without a second thought. Others say it's elevating the dark things and so they oppose it. Personally, I think there's something to both points of view, so I enjoy the cultural parts of the holiday -- I view the fun trick or treating and the unleashing of creative imagination as being positives. But other than watching an old scary movie or two, I mostly try to leave the darker side of the day alone. Mandy from South AfricaWow - what an awesome looking pumpkin.......trust Disney to get such a perfect specimen to grow in their wonder greenhouse!!! hhahahaa....I like the choice of focus here VF, it's really great! 29 Oct 2007 6:55am @Mandy: Thanks Mandy. This truly is a big pumpkin, and yes, Disney does seem quite able to get these things to grow perfectly. Me 2 from Pixel City, United StatesGreat shot View .... did you live close to Disney ? 29 Oct 2007 7:51am @Me 2: Thanks M2/Rob. Yes, we do live close to Disney, about a 90 minute/2 hour drive from Orlando. Wolfgang Prigge from Granby, Québec, CanadaSo let's get ready for trickin 'n treatin... Nice composition! 29 Oct 2007 10:51am @Wolfgang Prigge: Thanks. Just two more days. @Lorraine: Merci, Lorraine. Jack says thanks, too. :-D @Sriram: Thanks Sriram. Walt from Scarborough, CanadaI like the focus on the leaves with the soft pumpkin - makes for a much more interesting pumpkin shot! 29 Oct 2007 12:25pm @Walt: Glad you like this one, Walt. Me Myself & Eye from The Way Beyond,Thanks View for the info , my Mom and Sis have friends of the Family who live in Altamonte Springs , besides the occasional Hurricane it must be pretty nice to live in Florida ;) 29 Oct 2007 1:02pm @Me Myself & Eye: The thing about Florida is that apart from the occasional storms, the weather is pretty much the same year round. There can be upsides and downsides to that sameness, IMO. @Dimitrios: =o) @Reza: :o) e. from Washington DC, United StatesYay pumpkins! Great shot. :) I do really like how the pumpkin is slightly out of focus. 29 Oct 2007 4:07pm @e.: Thanks e. Betsy Barron : www.thebetsy.com from Glenmoore, United StatesHappy Halloween, VF! 29 Oct 2007 5:07pm @Betsy Barron : www.thebetsy.com: And to you too, BB. Thanks! Rebecca from Leicester, United KingdomWow!!! I do indeed get a feeling that the real “Jack” is about to burst out of that gorgeous fruit any minute!! Awesome, dear VF!! Just awesome!!! :) 29 Oct 2007 5:55pm @Rebecca: If Jack decides to burst out, I guarantee it'll be messy. Heh. Thanks Rebecca. @HorseRotorVator: Hi-Five! amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaSometimes that auto focus is a bit of a pain... I'm forever changing my focus points.. sigh.. It definitely says Halloween even without the face carved!! 29 Oct 2007 7:33pm @amy: Auto-focus was my friend, mostly. Thing was, in this one we were in a moving ride-car; Disney, y'know. And so there was precious little time to snap off a shot. I'm just grateful it is as focused as it is. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomGosh! that is one amazing Pumpkin!!! I can just imagine a pie made from this beauty :) Fabulous VF! 29 Oct 2007 8:22pm @MaryB: Thanks Mary. Rebel Streetshooter from United StatesBeautiful image. Well done. And since we weren't formally introduced...I believe thats Mister Jack... 29 Oct 2007 8:27pm @Rebel Streetshooter: My friend! So great that you'd drop by today. Mister Jack has been wondering how you've been doing. He is very pleased. Amir from ?, IranThe spirit of Halloween is upon us and this image is very well representing this season. I love it as you have done great framing it right. Well done dear friend 29 Oct 2007 9:32pm @Amir: I am very pleased by your comments and am glad to hear from you today, my friend. Blessings to you. bronzebilly u.k. from Barry,Vale of Glamorgan, United KingdomHey VF--the spirit of Halloween is celebrated in Wales(centre of the World)..but mostly by the younger kiddies.. 29 Oct 2007 10:50pm @bronzebilly u.k.: Too bad. I guess that's about what happens in many parts of the USA (especially urban) too. And then there are the freaks that do really weird, mean things to trick or treat candy and make most parents afraid to let their children go out trick or treating. Some people have nothing better to do than to create problems and ruin things for everybody else. bronzebilly u.k. from Barry,Vale of Glamorgan, United Kingdomb.t.w.--I don't know how my comment got up here ???--billy 29 Oct 2007 10:51pm @bronzebilly u.k.: I don't know either, but I noticed mine got kicked to the top of your list too. Weird Am3 quirks? Halloween goblin tricks? Aaaah-ooo-ooooooo-wwww! Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomPumpkin pie is on the menu tonight, and I'm full up. Good shot, interesting that the cameras autofocus chose to focus on the leaves, and not the pumpkin, but actually it works out ok that way in this image 29 Oct 2007 11:07pm @Richard_Irwin: Yes, it does look as if somehow the autofocus knew better than I did about how to do this one up right. I'll save ya' some pie, my friend. Blessings and thanks! Organik Mum from Victoria, AustraliaWhat a huge pumpkin! Great shot VF. I must say, I've been enjoying your photos and words leading up to All Hallows Eve. :) 31 Oct 2007 12:46am |
