Lights outPosted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 2 October 2007 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. Kind of echoing yesterday's three bells, now we see three colorful but unused lanterns -- unexpectedly captured last week as they unashamedly loitered around a fenced-off residential area in semi-rural Georgia.

@See The Light: Am pleased you like. @Wolfgang Prigge: Rural places have really interesting stuff just waiting to be found and photo-ed. Mandy from Johannesburg, South AfricaLovely VF!!! I love the bright colours of the lanterns against the rustic fence!!! Very cool. And thank you so much for your kind comments on todays macro - I'm thrilled you liked it!! hahahaa - after my disastrous first attempts it's really rewarding to have a winner!!! :) 2 Oct 2007 12:08pm @Mandy: When I first took the shot, I also only saw the colors. Then I noticed the green algae growing inside the glass and realized these lanterns had been "unemployed" for a long time... thus the train of thought for them "loitering" around the fence, etc. All this goes to say, glad you like! And your D80 macros are definitely a winner series! Brian from United StatesGreat image--the tones, textures, and colors work so well together. The spider web adds a nice touch, too! Thank you so much for your kind words on my page today; I hope to be able to replace the camera very soon. 2 Oct 2007 1:15pm @Brian: Thanks Brian. I'm sure you'll find a new camera you'll like; I like mine. But I was bonded to my D50, and that hasn't totally happened for me and my new one yet. We're working on that happening, though... @Amir: Wow, with all the photo-talent around here at Am3, for you to say something like this about my little pic sure feels great! Thank you Amir! R from Here and There, United Statesvery nice find .....but since you are the viewfinder , that makes sense 2 Oct 2007 1:42pm @R: You're a great encourager, R. Thanks. I think "R" must stand for "Righteous dude" =o) amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaGreat find Viewfinder!! Well done... especially with that bit of cobweb with the leave caught in it. 2 Oct 2007 2:04pm @amy: Thanks Amy; as we locals used to say down home in NOLA, that cobweb and the leaf is just some "lagniappe" (a little something extra). @HorseRotorVator: Makes me glad to know you like! Rebecca from Leicester, United KingdomOh yesiree, these 3 look like very interesting characters indeed!! Really wondering now what they were hanging around to do! *o) . Brilliant eye, VF and a most lovely composition. Love the textures, colours and rustic tones here! 2 Oct 2007 2:45pm @Rebecca: Many thanks Rebecca; I think the lanterns' names were Zeke, Zelda, and Bubba-Joe. Rabbit from Richmond, United StatesOh what a great find. I like these - they have SO much character! 2 Oct 2007 4:48pm @Rabbit: Thanks Ms. Rabbit. It's fun to not only beachcomb for visual treasures, but also to "comb" inland places; finds like these are everywhere -- if we're looking. Walt from Scarborough, CanadaLovely - beautiful colours on them...not sure I'd want to light them up however... 2 Oct 2007 5:47pm @Walt: LOL. And agreed; I would be very reluctant to fuel and light these particular vagrants. Nick Passantino from Bronx, United Stateswell composed shot.. good eye to see this one 2 Oct 2007 6:36pm @Nick Passantino: Much appreciation for this nice comment, Nick. Lost Valley View from Kamloops, CanadaI have some of these from when my Grandpa worked for the railway here in Canada!!! After I saw your photo I went running to my shed to see if I could find them. I found one! What a nice step back in time with warm memories. Lovely! 2 Oct 2007 7:12pm @Lost Valley View: Great! Glad this was a bit of an inspiration to you and that you still had one of your grandpa's old RR lanterns. Sorry I double-posted at your site; I stepped away from the computer in mid-process, then forgot where I was on my return. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomWell spotted VF, I really like the little cobwebs with the fallen leaves and the faded colours, it looks like they have not been lit for a long while! 2 Oct 2007 7:13pm @MaryB: So glad this is pleasing; and no, it appears they have not been actually lit for a long, long time. @Evi: Thank you Evi. @Harald: Thank you Harald. Your affirmation is appreciated. e. from Washington DC, United StatesWow, great shot. You really captured the disuse very well. 2 Oct 2007 9:06pm @e.: Smiling happily, VF extends much appreciation for the affirmatives. Anne from White Rock, CanadaWhat a great find VF! The colors and textures around are just great. I love it! 2 Oct 2007 9:52pm @Anne: Thank you Anne; I'm happy that you like this shot. Rags from Plano, United Stateslovely shot. They seem to have grown mold out of neglect. Could it be that we too could grow some for m of mold (depression, anger, guilt etc) when we are neglected? Your image makes me think and i like it for that. 3 Oct 2007 1:11am @Rags: Wow! You are paying this one a very high compliment. Thank you Rags. Your thoughts are very much appreciated. Jen from Alpharetta, United StatesWonderful to hear your good news about your son...I hope his recovery keeps on track and all my best wishes to him! 3 Oct 2007 1:38am @Jen: Heh, now remember, this is in "semi-rural Georgia" -- Rockdale County, near Conyers (technically becoming part of metro Atlanta as it continues to expand outward)... Ken McCoy from Orlando-Daytona Beach, FL, United StatesI like the feeling of this. There's something about the number 3. It's like the lanterns are for 3 best friends. 4 Oct 2007 12:38am @Ken McCoy: A very nice interpretation; thanks Ken. Bron from Canberra, AustraliaI love a loitering lamp! And three make a masterpiece !! Excellent spotting and capture. 5 Oct 2007 1:08am |
