The Quest is BestPosted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 30 August 2007 in Art & Design and Portfolio. Here is a statue of Spanish explorer and conquistador, Hernando DeSoto (in sepia, thanks to VF's photoshop magic). He rides tall in the saddle in the courtyard of a Bradenton museum. I think he may be on a quest, looking for his lost helmet, like this one, featured in a previous post... heh. DeSoto is a big name in Bradenton history. He sailed in on the Gulf and first set foot on the bank of the Manatee River near the NW edge of what is now the city. A few wikipedia facts about him to take home with you today... "In 1539, De Soto launched the largest of the early Spanish colonial expeditions. A vast undertaking, De Soto's expedition ranged throughout the southeastern United States searching for gold and a passage to China. De Soto died in 1542 on the banks of the Mississippi River at present-day Lake Village, Arkansas." But no one knows if he ever found that lost helmet... HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL AT AM3. I am out and probably away from the computer all this week. We are headed to north Georgia to spend Thanksgiving with our son and his wife and her family. I hope everyone who celebrates this holiday has a wonderful day, filled with turkey and gratitude for every blessing. And those who do not, I hope will remember to count their blessings and be thankful. Packing and getting the SUV all set for the drive today; we leave very early Tuesday morning and plan to return sometime Sunday.
