According to a Wikipedia article I googled up nighttime is... "The disappearance of sunlight, the primary energy source for life on Earth, has dramatic impacts on the morphology, physiology and behavior of almost every organism. Some animals sleep during the night, while other nocturnal animals including moths and crickets are active during this time. The effects of day and night are not seen in the animal kingdom alone..."
Umm, kinda cold and clinincal textbookish description. I much prefer the way of the poet... Like Allen Toussaint, who once wrote and sang songs about "Southern Nights" as in this snippet.
Southern nights have you ever felt a Southern night free as a breeze Not to mention the trees Whistling tunes that you know and love so
Southern nights just as good even when you Close your eyes, I apologize To any one who can truly say He has found a better way
Out on the Island, our summer "Southern" nights are generously sprinkled with colorful neon, turning ordinary buildings by day into brightly sparkling and inviting nighttime landmarks. Like this place.
Ask any vacationing tourist, transplant, or local. Bright, colorful night lights promise evening fun and even romance for far more than merely the occasional nocturnal moth or cricket. And welcome relief from the sticky daytime heat of summer.
Please pray for Bella.
Bella Update: 07/26/08. Saturday. Bella's good this morning; walk was fun/no squirrels, but we did a different block than usual. She likes variety. Breakfast -- meds soon, the post-walk routine. She slept better last night than the one before. Panting still, but it's hot. So, thank you God for another morning blessing today.
Bella and I are grateful for each of you, for caring and singing (love is all around...), and especially for praying. Please understand this miracle being prayed for, because although it is day by day, it also may take a bit of time for completion: Bella's battle for life, wellness, and a healed heart isn't a sprint but a long-distance run.
What we have right now are day by day blessings: I am prayerfully thankful that her good days may be God's bit by bit miracle, slowly unfolding.

I love the colours Viewfinder - especially the 3 chairs setting off the dark yellow! Cool!

@Bron: Yes, thank you for seeing those three chairs. After I took a look at this later, I'd wished I'd caught more of the chairs -- but maybe this is just a suggestion of what all is there. An atmospheric sampler. But, oh, those chairs...
hmm this is a nice shot!I MISS THOSE LATE NIGHTS OUT!

@tyan: Heh... mommies and daddies get to stay home more. But one day you'll have a chance to catch up. Thanks for the nice compliments.
Nice shot of the window neon lights - all very colorful and inviting!

@Anne: You are kind. Thanks for visiting today Anne.
What a wonderful mix of colours and textures. Superb compo! I really like your text as well VF, it adds a very nice touch :)

@Lorraine: Thank you Lorraine; your compliments are quite gracious and much appreciated. As I've said many times to various ones here in AM3, it is my firm belief that every good picture has at least one story to tell (or wants to). So I'm pleased you liked the text today, too.
Nice shot, it really represents a late night stroll in the tourist area of a beach community. No big fast food chains here! You caught the atmosphere really well...

@Wolfgang Prigge: Thanks for the affirmation of this image. It is all atmosphere. And that is the beauty of Anna Maria Island, it is all non-chain, non-fast-food kinds of places; all local enterprise. It just "feels" like another place and time.
Thank you for sharing this with us, VF. :) Jeff & I were in New Orleans way back in November '04 during our trip to America, and really enjoyed the character-full night eating spots. Oh yes, those carefree pre-Elise days :) . Have some shots of the "Big Easy" that we took from back then, but they're not half as good as yours! *-) Can imagine things must be somewhat different now, post-Katrina, but even so, the lively soul of the place appears to be living on, from your shots! Wonderful. :)

@Rebecca: Rebecca, thank you so much for sharing your and Jeff's experiences in New Orleans. I am especially glad you and Jeff liked what you experienced there. It can be a wonderful place, it was a wonderful place to grow up in. Hurricane Katrina changed a lot of things, but not the great memories. While my heart is back home in New Orleans and always will be, my wife and I now live in coastal Florida.
For the sake of geographic orientation, this particular photo today is one from Anna Maria Island, a barrier island on the Florida Gulf just to the immediate west of Bradenton (which is just south of Tampa/St. Petersburg). While it might resemble the night lights and neon of Bourbon St. in New Orleans, the atmosphere is totally its own. Island/coastal Florida is also a wonderful place to be living (or visiting).
wonderful colourful shot! well done!

@kairospix: Much appreciation KP. Sorry for mis-typing your name as KS at your site today (haste makes waste -- I know what kairos means).
Wonderful image again. I'm sorta envious, fore I'm near Times Sqaure, NYC, neon capital next to Las Vagas and no images to show for it. Your inspiration is welcomed.
18 Aug 2007 9:52am
@Rebel Streetshooter: Many thanks Rebel; you're a buddy. As for Times Square, NYC -- just get out there with your camera and start shooting. With your great eye and sense of the ironic, I can't wait to see the results.
...and Thanks.

@Rebel Streetshooter: You are most welcome, Reb.
Love the colourful neon lights. I love brightly lit places at night - they radiate "fun" although sometimes I prefer the "dark" :)

@Celialee: You are most gracious in your complimenting today Celialee. Thank you for coming by to see today's image.
Nice colourful shot.

@Stunner: Thank you Stunner. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jamaica as Hurricane Dean draws nearer.
Nice colors VF!

This, definitely gives the 'feel' of a vacation spot. Nice nighttime image, great colors offered up. I compliment you on answering each comment individually. Well done.

@FrannyC: Thank you Franny; because this day is past, I am less frequently dipping into my "archives" page to see who commented later. So I am slower in responding, but do try to catch up. I appreciate your visit here and hope you will return many times. Blessings.
Cool colors. enjoy them southern nights. :)

@HorseRotorVator: They're here to be enjoyed, and we do our best. Thanks for coming by, HRV.
The colors and those neon signs may appear to say "Budweiser" and "Corona" and "Open," but what they really sayl is FLORIDA.

@Twelvebit: Heh, you definitely got it right there, baybee! Thanks for the comments; I'm always happy when you drop by.
