Summer in the City The Lovin' Spoonful (John Sebastian - Mark Sebastian - Steve Boone)
Hot town, summer in the city Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty Been down, isn't it a pity Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world Go out and find a girl Come-on come-on and dance all night Despite the heat it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity That the days can't be like the nights In the summer, in the city In the summer, in the city
Our old backyard thermometer is reminding us that even in the "cool" of early morning, it's still summer in the city of Bradenton.
Please pray for Bella.
Bella Update: 07/23/08. Wednesday. Another good Bella morning, she is in good spirits, even with they mysterious disappearance of our normally numerous and active neighborhood squirrel population. Maybe "Sheriff Bella" has cleaned out Dodge and sent all those tree-climbing hoodlums packing. Heh.
Bella and I appreciate each of you for caring and praying. Please understand this miracle being prayed for, because although it is day by day, it also may take a bit of time for completion: Bella's battle for life, wellness, and a healed heart isn't a sprint but a long-distance run.
What we have right now are daily blessings: I am prayerfully thankful that her good days may be God's bit by bit miracle that is slowly unfolding.

We had the hot weather not it is cooler about 20c (68f) but the rains have come and a lightning about every five seconds for the last 4 hours. Can practically read by it. Could be a hot time in the old forests.
17 Aug 2007 12:32am
@Michael Rawluk: We will go up into the mid-90s (f) today. But the worst part is the humidity; it will feel like over 100 degrees. Hope your forests are spared.
temp here can go up to 35 deg c..but no basis for comparison eh?:)
17 Aug 2007 2:01am
@tyan: That's pretty hot, too. We will hit 35 c. at least by this afternoon, unless it rains. Stay cool...
Another great song VF :) Oh my goodness! that is hot I think the most we are getting to atm is about 16 deg. The great british summer eh! And a great capture too! :)
17 Aug 2007 2:23am
@MaryB: I can't imagine a summer getting "up" to only 16 degrees c. Surely it can get warmer. Thanks for your affirmative comments, MaryB.
Nice shot and words. Well done!
17 Aug 2007 2:44am
@Saed: I'm pleased you like the words and this image today Saed.
Looks like an Oldie Thermometer too. Cool Viewfinder! (I mean hot) :-)
17 Aug 2007 4:12am
@Rebel Streetshooter: Yes, an oldie thermometer it is. But accurate still. Thanks for your affirmatives today Reb.
I love the song and the photo Viewfinder - nice duo! Hope your day gets cooler!
17 Aug 2007 4:25am
@Bron: Ha-ha! Long as I stay inside. Strangely also if I go to the beach; the offshore winds usually blow cooler there than even a mile or two inland.
It's been a lot like that here for the past week or more - very sticky! Night before last it just would not cool down inside my apartment. The thermostat on the wall indicated that it was still 28 degrees at 11.00 pm. even though it had cooled down to about 20 outside. Thank goodness it cooled down today somewhat although the humidity was up at 80 percent.
Great idea for a shot at this time of year! :-)
17 Aug 2007 4:43am
@Anne: Ahh, summertime. I prefer dry heat to sticky, but we get it sticky here with our higher humidities (that's the price we pay for cooling afternoon rains). Hope things improve up your way pretty soon; in January you may even remember this day longingly... who knows? Thank you for the nice comments, Anne.
This brought a smile to my face as it reminded me of my holiday in Sardinia (got back at the weekend) - It has been the only 2 weeks of 'summer' weather that I've seen this year...same temperature as your thermometer but with a lovely cool breeze off the sea! Wonderful.
17 Aug 2007 4:59am
@Ian Bramham: The good thing is we get those cool breezes off the Gulf of Mexico too. Down side, I'm a couple of miles inland from the beach, so the breezes sort of peter out by the time they get to our house. Glad this reminded you of good times in Sardinia. Thanks for coming by here today, Ian.
Cool!!! Love the song, brings back memories oh and let's not talk of heat and humidity. Luckily ours just fell down, it's a very nice, cool 11 degrees C (approx 52F)
17 Aug 2007 6:53am
@Lorraine: Glad for you that the temps are dropped; 52 F sounds almost chilly, unless the sun is shining too. Thanks for coming by.
I understand the HEAT...here in Georgia it has been 100 almost every day and not a drop of rain in site, my front yard looks like it's just about dead and there is no watering except Sunday morning. Keep cool VF!!! btw...love the shot too!!! : D
17 Aug 2007 7:28am
@Jen: A weird thing for us is that we were more conscious of the extreme heat in Georgia when we lived in Conyers than we are here in FL. I hope you get some relief soon. Thanks for the visit and comments today.
Yup...hot hot summer.....maybe the worst part is the humidity..... Now....if I had the time to go cool off in a nice beach somewhere......
17 Aug 2007 9:16am
@celialee: lol, come visit the beaches of Florida.
Given the heat I am experiencing right now I absolutely love the framing of the thermometer....
17 Aug 2007 10:04am
@Lost Valley: Hey, I hope things cool down for you soon. Thanks for coming by with such affirmative commenting. Blessings.
Oh you have my number, they are predicting 116F today and right now we are at 38% humidity it is sticky because we are in our monsoon season. Pray for me, lots of water and shade!! It was so hot yesterday my car overheated. AUGH so I had to walk home. YUCK!
17 Aug 2007 10:37am
@Dawn Sutherland: So is it better to bake in the heat or be steamed? I'm not being unsympathetic -- 116 f. is eye-popping daunting. But 38% humidity is a good day in FL. And if you want to send any of your monsoons our way, we'll take 'em, although we have been getting a bit more much-needed rain this past week or so. We're still way under for the year.
Love the photo, love the song, but you can guess why I prefer Florida in November, can't you?As to Dawn from Phoenix, you call 38% humid? Try 98%!
17 Aug 2007 11:18am
@Wolfgang Prigge: LOL; humidity numbers down here are something our friends out West and north of the Ohio River aren't all totally familiar with. But hot or not, there are great things about the summer here in FL too. Thanks for the great comments!
I was going to say that isn't too hot, but if this was the temp early in the morning...Look out! It's gonna be a hot one!
We've actually had a fairly temperate summer with only a few hot days in the 90's. We've had a bit of humidity lately but I still have only used the AC a few times this summer, perhaps 5 or 6 days.
17 Aug 2007 11:33am
@Laurie: Only used your AC a couple of times? Blows me away. Here, AC is as essential as food; our last power bill was over $500.00 -- can't wait for some late autumn/winter relief, b/c we don't usually need to run the heat at all during the winter -- maybe only a couple of days.
It has been so hot around here recently, but it seems to have cooled off a bit. (Phew!) I like the detail in this, the rust and measuring lines. Cool shot!
17 Aug 2007 11:50am
@Shrig: Thanks Sbrig. Glad for your comments today.
Looking at your 'hot shot' :) (lol) today makes me really glad I posted my 'cooler' one the same day! :) lol .. But on a more sober note, this is definitely a serious one to think about. I remember being in India some years ago in the villages and the temperature got up to close to 40degC, (yes, above body temp!) and the life-threatening dangers it posed to impoverished villagers who did not have the 'luxury' of air-conditioning (or even electricity and fans!) for relief. Thank you for this reminder, VF.
17 Aug 2007 12:20pm
@Rebecca: Yes, with my whining about costs and heat, it can be far worse. Your India story is a reality check for me and folks like me who think things are tough right now.
Lol...at your response...I should explain, I dislike air conditioning, it tends to give me a headache and I feel too isolated when it's on because I cannot hear the outside nature sounds of summer. Most people around here do run theirs 24/7 from May/June through Sept. I am pretty tolerant of the heat so it has to be well into the 90's with humidity or I have to be a little under the weather for me too suffer enough to turn it on. However any long spell of high humidity will send me to the AC thermostat and I will use it. We've just been pretty lucky this year, although my kids do complain about the lack of AC.
17 Aug 2007 1:26pm
@Laurie: <smiling> Thanks for the clarification. I still can't imaging actually "choosing" to not use your A/C. But I think my wife would be cheering you on; we have constant conversations about the appropriate level of the thermostat.
hot shot. cool words ...lovely.
17 Aug 2007 1:39pm
@Olaide: Thank you my friend. Your visits and comments are always a highlight of my AM3 day. Blessings to you, Olaide.
that's hot, hot shot! well done!
17 Aug 2007 5:23pm
@M.E.: Thanks M.E.
I'm getting jealous now, over here it's just 17°C. lol
17 Aug 2007 6:11pm
@Markus: Let's meet somewhere in the middle, ok? Lol myself.
Nice one V !
17 Aug 2007 9:10pm
@RoBeRt: It's no brewery, though... Thanks RoBeRt.
we have worse days than that, this is prety cool 29º.
19 Aug 2007 4:14am
blimey!!! VF--it hasn't been that hot in Wales since--ooooh 2 weeks ago--seems like an age now--billy
19 Aug 2007 5:53pm
That is cool compared to the 109 I had in Kentucky last week. :) There is something cool about seeing the temp. Oh no, that's just me. I am crazy. Cool shot. :)
