Forgotten spacePosted by Viewfinder (Bradenton, FL, United States) on 19 July 2007 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Here's another pre-Katrina shot that might well be viewed as "through the mists of time." This seemingly forgotten back balcony of an old New Orleans house built with one foot in the French Quarter and the other in Faubourg Marigny was all but asking to be photographed and processed this way. Let me know what you think.

ally! from Singapore, Singaporethose old run-down places sure scream at us to photograph them, no? (: i think the PP works really well. fits the mood of the picture nicely. 19 Jul 2007 5:30am @ally!: I am encouraged by what you say. Thanks. Shuva Brata Deb from Hyderabad, India+ I like the post processing work that you gave to the border. 19 Jul 2007 6:30am @Shuva Brata Deb: Good suggestion. Thanks for both the + and the - comments on this image. ColNed Pictures from Amersfoort, NetherlandsNice shot again and the framing really helps the shot.... good work. 19 Jul 2007 7:06am @ColNed Pictures: Many thanks; without the framing and the bw treatment, it was really not much of a photo. I think it took this pp work to bring out whatever potential it may have had. {H} creatives from Santa Clara, United StatesNice capture here, Viewfinder! Your post-processing is truly great...this level of contrast depicts the "through the mists of time" look really well. A higher contrast would have probably given a different mood...nicely done, pal! Cheers...! 19 Jul 2007 7:54am @{H} creatives: Hey, {H} thanks. You're a great encourager as well as a terrific photographer. priya from ON, CanadaI donno about post processing and have learnt something today. 19 Jul 2007 12:17pm @priya: That's what I love about AM3 -- we all get to learn from each other. Thanks for coming by today. @Sriram: Glad you like this one. @MC: Thanks! It is the balcony in the alley behind what used to be Ruby Red's hamburger joint on Esplanade Ave. BTW, I like your cowgirl shot today on your site a lot. @Jen: Thank you for the nice compliment. travelingrant from Kanazawa, JapanYeah thats a cool shot, and of course looks even better black and white! 19 Jul 2007 1:58pm @travelingrant: Pretty cool image of your own today, dude. Thanks for this kind comment. tengtan from Melbourne, AustraliaThe old-world charm is well captured in B&W and its evocativeness also brings back some nostalgia for me when I reminisce about my holidays in the Latin Quarter well before Katrina. 19 Jul 2007 2:03pm @tengtan: Thank you. I am happy you did see the Quarter before Katrina. It's still pretty much like it always was, but the larger city is still reeling almost two years later. @Images by KC Photography: Nice of ya to say that! =) zoloper from Bucuresti, Romaniawow :D that's in a real ruin... 19 Jul 2007 3:38pm @zoloper: Thanks for suggesting this; as I did my pp work I tried more contrast but I thought it made a much more stark image than I was going for. I wanted a softer, less contrasty, almost dusty feel to reflect the age and wear. Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaVery nicely composed. I love old buildings. 19 Jul 2007 5:11pm @Michael Rawluk: Thanks for the praise; I love your shot today. The colors and lines are great. WendyTsang.com from Hayward, United StatesI like the edge - goes very well with your nice pic! 19 Jul 2007 5:47pm @WendyTsang.com: Many thanks Wendy, you are very kind. @Raziel: Heh, probably more junk.
